Trevino batted .236 with a .275 slugging percentage in 1274 games over seven seasons with the Texas Rangers (2018-21) and Yankees (2022-24).

He was named an All-Star for the 2022 season and won the Gold Glove Award.

In the 2024 season, he hit .215 with a batting average of .288 on-base percentage of .354 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs in 73 games.

Austin Wells had to take a backup role as he became the team's main catcher. This trade gives him a chance on a new team.

The Yankees will receive right-hander Fernando Cruz (34) and catcher Alex Jackson (28) in exchange for Trevino.

Cruz pitched 141 games in three seasons in the major leagues with a 4.52 ERA.

He played 66 or more innings in the last two consecutive seasons, serving as a full-time bullpen. In the 2024 season, he pitched 66 2/3 innings in 69 games, recording an ERA of 4.86 and a WHIP of 1.3359 innings with 1.2 homers, 4.7 walks and 14.7 strikeouts.

Jackson appeared in 124 games in five seasons in the major leagues, batting .132 with a .224 on-base percentage and a .232 slugging percentage.

He went through several teams, including the Atlanta Braves (2019-21), the Miami Marlins (2021), the Milwaukee Brewers (2022-23) and the Tampa Bay Rays (2023-24).

He agreed to an FA contract with Cincinnati in November, but was traded without playing in a new team.
